The Americas’ Largest Healthcare Conference Champions ESG Initiatives

The Florida International Medical Expo implements comprehensive environmental, social, and governance programs for the largest health care conference in the Americas

(July 20, 2022) – Beyond hosting 10,000 international delegates representing the most innovative health care companies, executives, academics, and entrepreneurs, the Florida International Medical Expo (FIME) is committed to incorporating exemplary environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards into the Americas’ largest health care conference, which will take place on July 27th to July 29th at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

This includes supporting nonprofits providing health care services in the world’s most underserved regions, contributing to a circular, sustainable economy, and reducing FIME’s carbon and energy footprint. “FIME prioritizes being a responsible environmental steward and excellent partner for worthy humanitarian causes,” explained Gil Alejo, FIME’s Exhibition Director. “Furthermore, we seek to support and elevate the visibility of these important issues among the 10,000 participants and exhibitors partaking in our multiday event. Ultimately, we want to set a new standard for responsible citizenship among conferences throughout the U.S. and Latin America.”

Humanitarian Support

FIME is encouraging participating exhibitors to donate medical equipment and supplies to Unidos por Venezuela, a nonprofit partner that collects and distributes humanitarian aid to Venezuelans within and outside their country of origin. A partner since 2019, FIME’s support of Unidos por Venezuela has resulted in the assistance of over 500 Venezuelans residing in Venezuela. Goods donated included medical supplies needed for surgeries, medical devices, and wheelchairs. FIME also organized a Charity Zone where nonprofits received free booths and marketing material valued at approximately $10,000 each. These organizations include:

·       Mercy Ships trains- international doctors and medical staff and offers free medical procedures in developing countries via its fleet of hospital ships.

·       Nicklaus Children’s Hospital provides world- renowned pediatric care to children of any age.

·       OneWorld Health- builds health care facilities in developing countries that provide medical services to some of the planet’s most underserved communities.

FIME is donating a $5,000 marketing package to One Blood, which will park its Big Red Bus outside the Miami Beach Convention Center to collect life-saving blood from participants.

Sustainability

Event organizers are collaborating with local partners and the City of Miami Beach to implement a single-stream off-site recycling program. All single-use materials procured by FIME’s event team will be recycled, including signage, promotional items, and food packaging. The event will only provide compostable and recyclable service ware. Additionally, FIME implemented key initiatives to eliminate potential food waste including portion control and strategic ordering procedures.

Energy and Carbon Reductions

In accordance with its sustainability goals, FIME chose the Miami Beach Convention Center as its venue because its innovative building design and high-efficiency infrastructure reduces energy consumption by 20%. Furthermore, all speakers will be housed within walking distance of the Miami Beach Convention Center to reduce their transportation carbon footprints.
